April 12, 2017

When I think of a perfect jawline, the first thing I think of is perfect genetics – think Angelina Jolie for females or the masculine lower face of Tyson Beckford or Superman actor Henry Cavill. Whether you want to eliminate the appearance of ‘jowls’, or an overly full or poorly defined neck, there is a solution out there for you. T U R N I N G Back the C L O C K

February 1, 2017

I met Shaun Baldwin a few years ago at Fonda in Chapel Street. We were introduced by a fellow colleague and friend.  It was a great dinner with many many laughs.  Conversation turned to “talking shop” and Shaun started to explain a treatment  called Factor 4, I was fascinated. Of course I had heard of the “Vampire Facial” or PRP and remember the social media photos of Kim Kardashian promoting the treatment, however I really didn’t understand the process. We parted ways, and time passed. Then one day visiting my Mentor Plastic Surgeon Dr Bryan Mendelson, I saw that he had recently introduced the Factor 4 treatment to his Skin Centre in Toorak.  Bryan being one of the most respected in his field Internationally would not be promoting a treatment without the scientific evidence. I decided it  was time to do have a serious look at the treatment and shortly after , I got…

Vitamin A: The Hero Anti Ageing Ingredient

December 8, 2016

As a 23 year old Nurse on the Plastic Surgery Ward at Cabrini Hospital In Malvern, Plastic Surgeon Mr Ian Carlisle told me there are three things I needed for ageing in reverse. The 3 things were “sunscreen, Anti wrinkle injections and Vitamin A”.  I understood the importance of sunscreen, and Anti wrinkle injections made sense when I was older, however I had no idea about the incredible benefits of Vitamin A.  Thank you Mr Carlisle, your advice has stood the test of time.   Vitamin A – the hero anti-ageing ingredient If Vitamin A isn’t already in your skincare routine, and you are suffering from acne, uneven skin tone, lines or wrinkles, things have got to change! Why? Vitamin A is one of the most effective, not to mention tried and tested, skin-transforming ingredients due to the heap of benefits it offers for ageing and acneic skin (skin eruptions, eg. pimples) Research proves…

The Natural Look with Dermal Fillers

July 11, 2016

I sit across from a patient at their initial consultation staring intently trying to not appear like I am staring. I ask the patients about their work and their family, I am of course interested in what they are saying yet I am mesmerized by their face, I am literally scanning their expressions. I am looking at the way their face moves at rest and at animation. I am looking at the person’s facial muscles, their volume loss, their skin quality, their jawline and their chin. I am obsessed with the lower third of the face. Chins are the new cheeks. I see small to large Volume loss in patients every day and as I explain in my consultation, Dermal fillers add volume to the face. This wonderful complex sugar molecule product  acts immediately by filling wrinkles and lines and plumping areas of the face where the fats pads have…

Why Do We Love Lips?

May 18, 2016

I was teased incessantly in Year 5 by a handsome boy called Luke Evans . He would scream out in the playground “hey it’s Fish Lips”… a horrible name to be called at such an awkward age. I wanted the cement to open up and let me fall in. It wasn’t until much later in life did I appreciate the pout my parents gave me. Why do we love lips? Why do women spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on lipstick to make lips pretty and different colours? Women have been accentuating their lips, the colour and showing of their beauty forever. Ancient Tribes would and still do insert bones in their lips to attract members of the opposite sex. In the 1900’s Surgeons would inject Paraffin and in the 1960’s Silicone was injected to achieve a desired result of lip enhancement and augmentation. In the 80’s until the early…

Sun Damage and Reversing the Signs With VITAMIN A: SUN KISSED

April 28, 2016

I started travelling to Asia from a very young age for family holidays. I remember so distinctly the burning of the skin on my face, back and shoulders after a long day in the pool in Malaysia or Bali. If you have ever been badly sunburnt you will know the horrible hours that follow. I remember being in the hotel room with my Mum covering me with Aloe Vera Gel to soothe my burnt skin. Lets just say I didn’t learn my lesson. In Melbourne in the early 2000’s there was a BODY BRONZE Tanning salon on practically every corner. I loved lying down in a solarium, especially on a cold and wintery day in Melbourne. I did remember asking Plastic Surgeon Mr Ian Carlisle once when I was Nursing at Cabrini Hospital, “what are the best treatments you can do for anti-ageing?” He replied ” Sunscreen, Laser, anti wrinkle…

Dermal Fillers Explained

April 20, 2016

We all know our faces change over time. When we are young our cheeks, jawline and upper face in particular, are full of volume and well defined. It is this volume that gives us youthful curves. When a person’s face loses volume, it can cause this person to look tired and older than we feel. Significant weight loss and long-term stress can play a part, although it is the gradual loss of volume that causes our face to change its contours over the years. Once volume is lost, it cannot be replaced by moisterisers. Moisterisers or lotions cannot penetrate deep to reverse skin sagging or to rebuild the supporting layers below. Dermal fillers is a great option to re-volumise the skin. As I have been injecting for the past 11 years I inject Dermal Fillers in Cheeks, Temples, Jawline and of course Lips to increase volume. WHAT IS A DERMAL…

Motherhood

April 3, 2016

Being a Mother of three boys is both challenging and rewarding to say the least. The dynamics of three personalities is a juggling act that nothing can prepare you for and I take my hat of to any parent especially with the extra pressure of a busy working life. Being a single parent was certainly not a life goal of mine. Marriages end and life goes on.  I endeavour to be a good parent and a good example to my boys. I tell them the truth and explain things practically.  Sometimes my opinions can be repeated by my 9 year old and I shudder and remember that saying “children are like sponges”.   His Father calls him the Alex Pike “Tape Recorder” as he likes to make opinionated statements that sound particularly adult like “how bad was that sushi?”. He also likes to lock up the house at night and says things…
