Any self-respecting beauty devotee like myself knows her microdermabrasion from her micro-needling from her LED light therapy. But did you know there’s a now a device that combines all three skin-loving treatments? This has been my little secret for the past few months so I was keen to share it on my blog. I am obsessed with this treatment.

With its three-pronged approach to dull, dehydrated and ageing skin, DermaFrac could well be the total skin rejuvenating treatment you’ve been looking for. What’s more, there’s no downtime – so you can enjoy smoother, firmer, plumper skin sooner!

What does it do?

The DermaFrac treatment is a unique combination therapy that provides micro-needling, microdermabrasion and LED light therapy all in one, giving you maximum results. What’s more, DermaFrac can be used on all skin types – even the most sensitive.

DermaFrac is used to target a wide range of skin concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, brown spots and pigmentation, open pores, congested skin, acne scarring, and dry and dehydrated skin.

How does it work?

Each DermaFrac treatment involves three stages, the first being microdermabrasion, followed by micro-needling and LED Light Therapy.

The microdermabrasion treatment uses a vacuum, which pulls the skin toward an abrasive pad, removing the outermost layer or dry dead skin cells. This works to stimulate circulation and collagen production.

Next up is the micro-needling. The DermaFrac has a roller containing super-fine needles that is placed on the skin to stimulate collagen production and cell renewal, helping to plump, firm and smooth the skin.

The roller creates micro-channels in your skin, enabling the infusion of a potent serum to boost the impact of the needling treatment. So basically, the serum is able to get to where it is needed! This leaves your skin with a glowing complexion and instant results.

The treatment may also include a LED therapy to promote collagen stimulation and reduce redness. The DermaFrac treatment may include one or more LED Therapy sessions, depending on the skin condition being treated. The LED treatment generally takes around 3-6 minutes (quickest treatment ever!) and there is not usually any side effects or discomfort associated with the therapy.

What’s involved?

There is no downtime involved and you can return to normal activities immediately following the procedure. You may experience mild redness on the treated area, however this will fade and you can apply makeup directly to the skin after the procedure.

DermaFrac is typically administered in six treatments every two weeks, followed by maintenance visits every one to two months.

The beauty of the procedure is that it is completely customised to your own individual skin concern, and the combination of treatments ensures the best results are achieved for a beautifully rejuvenated appearance.

The 3 treatments explained

Skin needling
Skin needling uses tiny punctures to stimulate the skin’s own healing response and is used to treat wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and improve skin texture. It also facilitates the delivery of products containing active ingredients to cells in the dermal layer of the skin.

It is usually performed using a roller embedded with very fine needles that make multiple pinpoint puncture wounds in the dermis. This dermal damage stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin. New collagen production is the object of all skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments.

Because it creates dermal damage while leaving the epidermis intact, the healing period is rapid and there is no risk of permanent structural damage, sun sensitivity, skin colour loss or hyperpigmentation.

Skin needling can also treat sensitive areas other treatments cannot, such as the neck, the backs of hands and under the eyes, and can be safely performed on all skin types and colours.

Microdermabrasion removes the outer layer of the corneum stratum, improving the appearance of fine lines, sun damage or raised scars and giving skin a brighter, more even tone and smoother texture.

Different methods include mechanical abrasion from jets of zinc oxide or aluminium oxide crystals, fine organic particles that are blasted onto the skin under pressure and vacuumed up with the loosened skin. Some treatments use a roughened surface, usually a wand or in this case an abrasive pad.

The treatment is painless and in fact may feel very similar to a salon exfoliation, while the time involved is similar to a complete facial. Skin may feel a little hot and appear a little pink after treatment but this settles rapidly.

LED light therapy
Treatment with light emitting diodes (LED) delivers light at certain wavelengths to stimulate cellular activity and collagen production in the dermis. This delivers an anti-ageing, rejuvenating effect, and LED treatment is often recommended before and after surgery, as well as a standalone skin revitalisation treatment.

It uses different wavelengths to increase blood flow to the skin, accelerate cellular turnover and address specific concerns such as acne or pigmentation. For example, infrared light deeply penetrates the dermis and stimulates blood flow and collagen rebuilding in the skin’s deeper layers. Blue light, which is a shorter wavelength, doesn’t penetrate as deeply and is used for its anti-microbial effect, inhibiting the growth of acne-causing bacteria.

When all three modalities are combined, like in the DermaFrac treatment, you’ve got all skincare bases covered in one fell swoop – and will be on the fast track to a beautiful, glowing complexion. If I need to be event ready or out and about Saturday night…….or I want to feel free to go without makeup when running around with the kids….. this treatment is the ideal solution.
